The Polish government is taking additional steps to try and contain the coronavirus in Silesia, which has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Andrzej Duda recently took part in a video conference of the Voivodeship Safety and Emergency Management Division in Katowice. So far, 7,071 cases of coronavirus cases have been confirmed across the Silesian Voivodeship, with almost half of the number concerning miners. Outside the mining sector, the percentage of cases in Silesia is similar to that in the rest of the country. After the first outbreaks were detected in the mines, an immediate decision was taken to carry out screening tests among miners. More than 100,000 tests for coronavirus detection have already been performed in Silesia. More than 38,000 of those tests are screening tests conducted among the mining community.
