Polish Unemployment rate was 3.8% in May, Euro area fell to 7.9%

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in Poland was 3.8% in May 2021, compared to 3.9% in the previous month, the EU statistical office Eurostat reported.

The number of unemployed in Poland amounted to 650 thousand. in May against 676 thousand. a month earlier.

In the EU as a whole, the unemployment rate in this approach amounted to 7.3% in May.

Eurostat measures the harmonized unemployment rate as the percentage of unemployed people aged 15-74 who were able to take up employment in the next two weeks and who were actively looking for a job in the past weeks for all the economically active people in the country.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the unemployment rate, measured as a percentage of the unemployed registered in labor offices compared to the total civilian population, was 6.1% at the end of May 2021.

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area stood at 7.9% in May 2021, compared with 8.1% in the previous month, the EU statistical office Eurostat reported.

The market consensus was 8% for the euro zone.

In the entire European Union (EU), this indicator amounted to 7.3% in May against 7.4% a month earlier.
