Polish wind farms generated 238.2 GWh over the weekend, ie approx. 35% of the country’s production

1 February 2022

Last weekend Polish farms generated a total of 238.2 GWh of electricity, which accounted for almost 35% of the daily net production in the country, estimated the Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA).

Due to favorable weather conditions, the entire month of January was record-breaking when it comes to wind energy generation, over 2.5 TWh was generated, which is a historic result. Such a large production means that the wind energy worked on average with a capacity of nearly 3,500 MW, i.e. with nearly 50%. productivity, it said.

The price of electricity produced in renewable energy installations such as wind farms is currently more than three times cheaper than in the case of energy production in conventional power plants using coal or gas, according to PWEA.

“At the time of the last record, onshore windmills accounted for a third of the national electricity demand, which shows how their role in Poland’s energy mix is growing. Unfortunately, the renewable energy sector in Poland does not use its potential. Wind farm. Investments entering the construction phase today are projects commenced before the introduction of the aforementioned 10H rule. After the act entered into force, virtually no new wind farm project has started in Poland,” said PWEA President Janusz Gajowiecki.

“Without easing the 10H rule this year, Poland, our consumers and the economy will have huge problems. Uncontrolled price increases can only be stopped by the construction of new onshore wind power capacity. Otherwise, the consequences may be dramatic in terms of energy costs,” he concluded.
