With millions of euro in EU funding on the line, Czech finance minister Miroslav Kalousek is finally taking action. The EU is concerned that the control procedures in place to ensure proper usage of subsidies is in place and has revoke access to the funds. Kalousek proposed that all auditors controlling EU funds be run by a single unit controlled by his ministry, an idea that’s triggered sharp criticism from rival parties. They fear he’s simply trying to amass further powers, but the country stands to lose substantially if a solution isn’t found soon.
