Polnord pushes to recover debts from Warsaw officials

19 February 2014

The Polish developer Polnord announced it will increase efforts to recover its debt from Warsaw City Hall this year, the daily Puls Biznesu reports. Polnord took city officials to court last year over a conflict concerning plots in Warsaw’s Wilanów district. Polish media reported that the city illegally took over the land from Polnord with the intention of building a road system for a new Wilanów housing district being developed by Polnord. The city reportedly refused to pay for the land. “We plan to intensify our steps to regain the money from the city for the land that’s been taken over illegally,” says Tomasz Sznajder, Polnord’s vice president. “As before, in order to see any effect, we need to publicize the case.”

Puls Biznesu alleges the conflict has created a headache for city officials. The city is calling Polnord’s claim illegal. “The court process in currently underway, which is why we refuse to provide any information that could weaken our position in the conflict,” a spokeswoman for Warsaw City Hall, Agnieszka Kłąb, told the daily.
