PORR has been awarded the silver medal by the internationally recognized sustainability rating agency EcoVadis. This puts PORR among the top performers in the construction industry in terms of responsible corporate governance.
“PORR has once again proven that it is in the top league when it comes to sustainability,” says a delighted PORR CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss. More than 100,000 companies worldwide have already been assessed by EcoVadis, one of the leading providers of sustainability ratings. PORR is among the top 18% of the construction industry in this year’s ranking.
EcoVadis rates according to international sustainability standards and covers a wide range of non-financial management systems. PORR was assessed at all operating sites in the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. In particular, PORR was able to expand the areas of environment and ethics and also increase its overall rating.
Largest recycler in the Austrian construction industry.
“Decarbonization is one of the key growth drivers of our construction industry, along with deglobalization, digitalization and demographics,” said Strauss. As part of the “Green and Lean” strategy, the focus on sustainability is already holistically integrated into the Group strategy.
For example, PORR is already implementing a wide range of measures in the area of decarbonization, be it optimized construction site logistics, an increasing number of PV systems on its company-owned sites and containers, and a focus on efficient equipment and construction machinery. In terms of the circular economy, PORR acts as the largest recycler in the Austrian construction industry and meets environmental protection criteria at construction sites and its own sites. In the social area, PORR is a safe and inclusive employer and focuses on topics such as the PORR Care+ insurance model for employees, the Safety Walk app and various training measures via the PORR Academy and PORR Campus.
More than 300 multinational companies use EcoVadis to monitor the sustainability performance of their trading partners. “For more and more clients, proven sustainability performance is essential for awarding contracts,” explains Strauss. “For us, sustainable action is not only an essential part of our social responsibility, but also the foundation of our success. We are constantly implementing improvements and identifying challenges, e.g. in the area of supply chain management.
