Postbank study warns German residential prices rising rapidly

8 June 2020

Postbank has published a study together with the Hamburg World Economic Institute tracking the development of housing prices across Germany called the Postbank Housing Atlas. It warns that sharp increases can be expected not only in major German metropolises but in rural areas as well. More than 90 percent of all German counties and cities recorded price increases in 2019, with the average rate being 9.3 percent (after adjustments for inflation). That marked an increase in the pace of inflaion compared to 2018, with Munich leading the way. Prices rose 6.2 percent in the Bavarian capital to €8,079 per square meter. In terms of counties (Landkreise), nine of the most expensive 10 in Germany are located in Bavaria, with the average price in seven of them higher than €5,000 per square meter.
