Poverty line inches up 0.6% in Bulgaria

Approximately 22 percent of the Bulgarian population currently lives below the poverty line, according to the National Statistics Institute. The figure has increased by 0.6 percent from the previous year. Those who make €197 or less per month are considered to be living below the poverty line.

Unemployed people account for 53.3 percent of those living below the poverty line, with unemployed males at a 5.1-percent greater risk than unemployed females.
