PPL opened a transshipment center in Hradec Králové with a capacity of up to 500,000 parcels per day
Yesterday in Hradec Králové, the transport company PPL CZ opened a central transshipment center for the Czech Republic with a handling capacity of up to 500,000 parcels per day. It will also serve as a transport hub for international transport. The Hradec center will complement the company’s existing central transshipment center near Prague in Říčany – Jažlovice, the capacity of which is no longer sufficient. PPL CZ stated this in a press release.
The logistics center is by the D11 highway on the northwestern outskirts of Hradec Králové in the former premises of ČKD Plotiště. The loading dock with an automatic sorting machine covers an area of 4.6 hectares and includes a warehouse of over 10,000 square meters. The depot has 20 entrance and 50 exit gates, and its total area is twice that of the Jažlovice center.
“The convenient location of the transshipment center with good access to the infrastructure and transport connection to the D11 highway is an advantage that multiplies the capacity of the PPL transport network,” said Petr Horák, executive director of PPL CZ. According to the company, the center will also make it possible to improve the accessibility and connection of PPL CZ to the European DHL network and other foreign markets.
The transshipment center will be operated by 44 employees, dispatchers and coordinators, to whom another 100 agency workers will be added to the operation.
“Thanks to the sufficient capacity of the sorting center, it will be possible to expand the second, afternoon wave of deliveries across the country. The automated line supports five-sided reading of shipments, dynamic weighing, sorting and measurement of shipments,” the company said.
PPL CZ is part of the DHL eCommerce Solutions division. It specializes in parcel transport throughout the Czech Republic and throughout Europe. The company employs almost 1,000 workers and 2,000 drivers. It has 25 depots, two central transshipment facilities and a network of 4,000 delivery and delivery points. Last year, the company generated a net profit of CZK 573 million with a turnover of CZK 4.8 billion.
