Prado museum holds architectural competition for Hall of Realms renovation

23 March 2016

Madrid’s Museo del Prado is planning to launch an international architectural competition to restore its recently acquired Hall of Realms. Prado will select eight finalists who will submit a proposal of how to redesign the interior so it can better serve as gallery space that can hold exhibitions of the museum’s Spanish historic and artistic collections. The facility is expected to add between about 14,100 sqf and 19,000 sqf of exhibition space to the institution’s campus. The museum plans to complete the project in time for its 200th anniversary in 2019.
