Prague’s first district is making it gradually more difficult for non-residents to drive into the historical center of the city. The latest steps involve making it impossible to drive along Ostrovni street all the way to Husova, or to use Husová street as a way of getting to Marianske náměsti. In addition, say Prague 1 officials, Marianske námesti’s days as a parking lot are numbered, with changes planned that would turn it into a normal square. “We want return a certain quality of life to the center of the city,” said council member David Skala. He warned that parking places will become more expensive for businesses, who pay just CZK 7,000 per year for an annual parking permit. “That amount seems extremely low to us,” warned Skala, who is also pushing to make it even more expensive for long limousines to park in the center.
