Prague 1 cracks down further on cars in the center

17 June 2019

The City of Prague is looking to cut down further on the use of cars in the center by closing the road leading through the Power Tower to Hybernska street. The move is a reaction to the over-use by drivers of the road as a short-cut through the center to get to the Magistral. “The transit traffic is extremely give, said Prague 1 city councilor David Skala. “Roughly three in five cars that we see crossing Štefanikuv bridge appears on Hybernska.” He says, however, that this will only be effective if they also shut down use of Havlíčková street that runs in front of the Masaryk train station. Skala says that Prague 1 is also planning to make changes to Marianske Square in front of Prague’s City Hall to stop it being used as a parking lot. It will also be installing moveable barriers to prevent non-residents from driving in some parts of the center except in the morning.
