Prague 10 to decide fate of Eden building

30 July 2019

Prague 10’s political leadership will be discussing the future of the Eden building in connection with the completion of a study of the building’s foundation and structural integrity. Originally constructed in the 1980’s the building has lain dormant since 200 when it was closed because of its poor technical state. Prague 10 would like to see cultural activities return to the building, but it doesn’t think the district should have to pay the estimated CZK 400m on its own. That, at least, is the opinion of the opposition Prague 10 deputy Tomáš Peka. “Its use and operation is a regional matter so the City of Prague should contribute to its repair.” Deputy mayor Filip Humplik said Prague 10 was considering financing reconstruction by leasing it to an operator who would pay for the repairs. But he warned that reconstruction could turn out to be so expensive that it would be cheaper to hold a tender to build a new one in its place.
