The city district of Prague 12 will buy the building of the former cultural house in Cholupice from the agricultural cooperative Agrofarma, which is in liquidation, for CZK 19.74 million. The purchase was approved at its meeting by the city council. Prague 12 wants to build civic amenities in the building. The decision on what should specifically arise in the currently unused and dilapidated building should come from participatory negotiations with the citizens of Cholupice, the town hall management said.
“One of the possibilities (further use of the building) may be the conversion to a kindergarten, which is missing in Cholupice,” said Prague 12 councilor Hana Jandová (TOP 09), who is responsible for, among other things, the city district and economic administration. She added that there are now no meeting rooms, doctor’s offices or shops in the city district.
The building in Podchýšská Street will be bought by the town hall from the agricultural cooperative Agrofarma for a price determined by an expert opinion, ie for 19.74 million crowns. According to the Deputy Mayor of Prague 12, Jiří Fremr (ODS), most of the land on which the former cultural house stands is part of the city district. Other land on which the house is built belongs to the Czech Republic. Therefore, for the possible reconstruction of the building and its further use for the needs of the inhabitants of Cholupice, it will be necessary to negotiate and buy the land, Fremr added.
Opposition representative Tomáš Korálek (BEZPP) criticized the town hall for wanting to buy the former cultural house without further use of the building. Opposition representative Lenka Vedralová (YES) stated that the current leadership should leave the possible reconstruction of the building to the new leadership of the town hall, which will emerge from the autumn elections. She cited some of the investments made by the current council as a reason, such as the reconstruction of Sofijské náměstí or the creation of a park in Povodňová Street, which Vedralová described as unsuccessful. However, the purchase of the building was supported by 29 of the 31 representatives present.
In Prague 12, the coalition consists of representatives of Pirates, ODS, TOP 09 and the Greens. The town hall of the twelfth district is headed by the mayor Jan Adamec (Pirates). Prague 12, where 56,617 inhabitants live, includes the entire cadastral areas of Cholupice, Kamýk, Komořany, Modřany and Točné.
