The city of Prague has secured a building permit to build a footbridge across the Vltava river at Troja to replace the one that collapsed nearly 18 months ago. City officials claim the structure will have a lifespan of 100 years and that it would again be intended for use by pedestrians and bikers. Work on the bridge is expected to begin in June following a public tender and is scheduled for completion by next summer. The collapse of the original Troja footbridge led to the discovery of the poor state of dozens of bridges around the city, including the Liben bridge. Four people were injured in the accident.
