Prague 8 deputies failed to approve an order to conduct study on the future development of the area around the Palmovka metro station. Despite calls by the opposition deputies in the local council to consult with Prague 8’s transportation commission before ordering the study, the district’s governing coalition put the matter up for a vote. In the end, however, the item was taken off the scheduled order of business and Prague 8 councilor Tomáš Hřebík said it would be voted on in May. The study is supposed to help the district plan for the future development of a 138 ha area that’s seen as one of the major investment zones Prague still has to offer. The unfinished Centrum Palmovka is an eyesore that lies on the western edge of the land to be considered in the study. It was supposed to serve as the Prague 8 headquarters, but following a dispute with the contractor, work on the building ended prior to completion.
