The City Hall of Prague 8 will form a working group that will negotiate with the municipality on the future development of the Invalidovna housing estate. Representatives of local people will also be able to take part. The city council will then discuss the next steps. The representatives of Prague 8 decided on that today. They originally discussed the creation of an urban study, but so far they have backed down. The Invalidovna housing estate is located on the eastern edge of Karlín and was established between 1959 and 1967.
“The settlement site is one of the developing territories, and there is no concept of its development. We would like a concept for the whole territory. I would like us to have a binding document that sets clear rules,” said opposition representative Vaclav Stransky who submitted the discussion on the development of the housing estate to the agenda. He described the current development process as “raiding”.
Stránský originally demanded that the city district commit to creating a study. According to Deputy Radomír Nepil (YES), however, its elaboration would be unrealistic, as it would not have been created before the new Metropolitan Plan came into force, which should come into force in January next year. He argued for a study on Palmovka, which took about four years to prepare.
Representatives across all parties eventually opted for the option of setting up a working group. Its members will be not only representatives of all parties, but also locals. City Hall management has promised to include the Invalidovna issue on the agenda of its next meeting.
There are several development projects for the large area of Invalidovna. The development is proposed for the part belonging to the Karlín area of Bohemia, investors are planning houses in Sluncová along the railway line, and the National Theater, which is planning to build workshops, also wants to build here.
Yesterday’s council meeting was attended by local citizens. One resident said that the development of the Invalidovna and the construction are now spontaneous and chaotic. Another criticized some of the projects that investors are planning here. Others wanted the town hall to take the opinion of the inhabitants into account when deciding on the territory. Councilor Tomáš Hřebík (TOP 09 and STAN) promised that the town hall would discuss with the inhabitants.
