Prague airport has an additional five years to build a new parallel runway. The Czech Environmental Ministry has extended its EIA approval, issued in 2011, until October 2021, giving the airport time to work on the project’s planning documentation. Prague airport spokeswoman Marika Janoušková says construction could start in 2022. The runway, expected to cost CZK 9bn, is scheduled to be completed by 2025. In 2010, completion was expected in 2014. Prague airport head Václav Řehoř told the server e15, however, that the airport has until 2019 to decide whether to move forward with a new runway or invest into the existing runway. The new runway would increase the capacity of the city’s Václav Havel Airport to 21 million passengers annually. The airport dispatched 13 million people in 2016.
