Prague Alcron hotel set for renovation

28 January 2022

The Prague hotel Alcron with 204 rooms, located in the immediate vicinity of Wenceslas Square, will undergo extensive renovation and will be renamed Almanac X Prague. It will thus be the first object of a new prestigious series of hotels owned by the Vienna WSF Group. This group already has the Almanac Hotel Barcelona in its portfolio, which has become a very popular place for locals and visitors to this Catalan metropolis.
Hotel Alcron was opened in 1932 and quickly became a popular place for both Praguers and visitors to the capital, which included leading figures in the field of culture – actors, producers, singers, writers, as well as foreign correspondents. The family company WSF Group has owned Alcron since 1995.

The total investment in the new design of the rooms and all common areas is 20 million euros. The redevelopment began in January this year and will last throughout the year; the hotel will be uninterrupted. WSF Group places great emphasis on a new gastronomic concept. Almanac X Prague will offer its own modern concept of Czech cuisine using both traditional and alternative methods of food preparation. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy Czech culinary art in a new concept of the 21st century.

WSF Group has entrusted interior design to the Spanish studio Interior Designers Tres Cinco Uno and the local architectural office Marani. In cooperation with the group’s internal architects, they will add new elements to the famous Art Deco style, which capture the current lifestyle trends of the cosmopolitan society. WSF Group fully respects the famous culinary history and legacy of the Alcron Hotel, which it will build on by introducing a new gastronomic concept.

The hotel will be expanded with a total of three brand new features: a roof terrace, a shop and a café. These are designed to restore the hotel’s importance as a cultural and social center and provide guests with an enjoyment that is original, different, but at the same time resonates with their lifestyle. The WSF Group envisions Almanac X Prague as a perfect synthesis of the most attractive features of Prague, including: the preserved architectural past, the historical role of the capital as a cultural center and the current status of one of the most sought-after cities in Central Europe.

“Alcron is a wonderful hotel in a beautiful location, right in the center of one of Europe’s most popular cities. In its heyday, it was an exceptional place and will be again, today with the needs and preferences of guests and visitors in the 21st century. The address Štěpánská 40 will once again become synonymous with the words innovative, thoughtful, modern – and at the same time energetic and fashionable,” said Tina Haselbacher, owner of the WSF Group.
