The city of Prague has launched an architectural contest to redevelop Štvanice island on the Vltava river. The winning design will receive CZK 1m. The budget for the project is not expected to exceed CZK 500m. Well-known professionals were involved in setting the conditions for the competition, and they will also be members of the jury. The design should connect Štvanice island to the city by two foot bridges, and city representatives also want to build a new ice-stadium to replace the one torn down last year. The island should offer facilities for sport, recreation and cultural events. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda will sit on the jury, along with his deputies Pavel Richter and Tomáš Hudeček. Other members of the jury will include professionals such as Josef Pleskot, Jakub Kynčl, Adam Gebrian, Jakub Fišer, Dan Merta, Petr Kratochvíl and Martina Forejtová. The shortlist for the second round of the contest should be announced in the spring.
