Prague injects nearly CZK 1 billion into new metro line construction

6 October 2020

Prague will provide a €975 million subsidy to the Prague Transport Company (DPP) to support the construction of the first section of the new metro line. The investment has fallen behind schedule as a result of complications caused by the coronavirus. The delays have been caused by problems securing permits for work to go ahead as objections from the public have had to be dealt with. Work was supposed to begin in September but now looks unlikely to get underway before the spring. “According to an optimistic scenario we could begin building next spring, while according to the pessimistic scenario it could take a half year more, meaning next fall,” said DPP’s spokesman Daniel Sabik. “We would like to open the fourth line of the Prague metro by the second half of 2028 but it will depend on when we can begin building the first section.”
