At the 16th EXPO REAL, the commercial property and investment exhibition in Munich (Oct 7-9), the City of Prague presented its visions towards the sustainable development and so called intelligent urbanization. It is envisaged that two out of three of the world’s population will live in cities by 2030, which makes huge demands on the infrastructure of city centres and on the satisfaction of the needs and requirements of the ageing population. Incidentally, the City of Prague has vision for increasing the density of the existing buildings and development of residential areas within the scope of the new Metropolitan Land Use Plan. The latest information about the preparation of this plan was provided by Milan Urban, Deputy Chairman of the City Development Planning Committee, City Of Prague Assembly, who said on the occasion of the presentation at the Prague stand: “Analyses indicate that Prague ranks among those Central European cities with the lowest density of buildings. This is why the Metropolitan Plan envisages an increase in the density of buildings on the whole territory of the City of Prague. Taking a look at residential development in Prague, one can see that the number of completed apartments compares with that of the year 2001. To ensure sustainable development of the city, this number has to rise again.”
