Prague lends CZK 2bn for metro A extension

12 September 2014

Prague wants to accelerate construction of the metro line A extension to Motol by lending the city-owned Transport Company CZK 2bn, writes the server Týden.cz. The company is waiting on more funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB). EIB will give the transport company the last €2.5bn installment only after all the orders have been approved by the Antimonopoly office.

Construction of the metro A extension to Motol has been plagued by numerous problems. Last year, the Transport Ministry lowered the limit for EU funding of the project. At the same time, the Transport Company needed to pay additional bills for the extra work. An internal audit has revealed a number of discrepancies. The total costs, however, may be lower than expected. The price of the 6 km section of the metro was originally estimated at CZK 22.5bn. The final price is now expected to be CZK 2bn less.
