Prague politics kick into high gear over new master plan

5 June 2012

Deputies of the Civic Democratic Party in the Prague City Council are expected to approve a proposal by their coalition partner in the Prague City Hall – TOP 09 – to cancel the current version of Prague’s next master plan. This would open way for deputy mayor Tomáš Hudeček to start work on a simplified version he calls Metropolitan plan. The idea is backed by Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda and the leadership of Prague Civic Democrats. The minister of regional development has warned Prague’s City Council that any change in the planning process involves the risk that the city will be sued by investors and property owners who expect the new master plan will enable realization of their projects.
