Prague re-opens Opatov P+R and promises new ones

3 October 2019

Prague’s governing coalition came into power promising to make progress on key transportation investments which stagnated during the previous election period. One of the more glaring oversights has been the failure to build new Park & Ride facilities on the edge of town, a problem which is quickly turning into a crisis as growing numbers of people living outside Prague drive into two each morning. City council members promised to finally begin construction on new ones, a process that often takes years to complete. But at the beginning of October, the city announced with immediate effect the renewal of service at the Opatov P+R. The 212-spot lot closed two years ago after the owners of the land on which it’s located closed it down, following a protracted legal battle with the city. After parking their cars, commuters have to walk 100 meters to the buys Opatov transportation hub which has numerous bus lines and a metro station. The city has also promised to begin construction on two new facilities this year, including one at the Praha-Běchovice střed train station, which is a 15-minute train ride away from the Masarykovo station.
