Three Prague party leaders signed a coalition contract for running the Czech capital over the next four years. Each of them won 13 seats in the city assembly in last month’s elections, giving them control 39 of the Prague assembly’s 65 seats. They will divide the city council’s seats between them and on Thursday are expected to elect ZdenÄ›k HÅ™ib, head of the Pirate party, as mayor. The country’s most powerful political party, ANO, was not invited to take part in the coalition, much to the dismay of prime minister Andrej BabiÅ¡. And the significance of this fact is quickly becoming clear. BabiÅ¡ tweeted on Monday that he’s in favor of building a government quarter somewhere in Prague where multiple ministries could be concentrated. HÅ™ib rejected the idea, saying that Prague needs to be a multi-centric city.
