Prague rethinks metro D-line

11 June 2012

Metroprojekt, the Prague architecture firm, has come up with a cheaper variant of Prague’s fourth metro line which would replace the original D-line project that’s now on hold because of a lack of funds in city coffers. The new idea is to replace it with a branch of the existing C-line, thereby cutting costs by CZK 10bn. The first phase would connect the Pankrác station with Nové Dvory and Krč, and continue on to Písnice in later phases. Prague mayor Bohuslav Svoboda says the project will have to be discussed first by city officials and that construction could only begin after the current extension to the A line (in the direction of the airport in Prague 6) is completed in 2014.
