A total of 17 airlines have announced their intention to renew direct service to Prague’s international airport. In all, they would provide flights to 55 services, of which 10 are currently being operated. While it’s an improvement over a month ago, it still represents just one-third of the airport’s activities from a year ago. Direct flights returned this week for travellers going to Belgrade, Brussels, Budapest, Košice, Keflaviku, Manchester and Munich. Among the flights now in operation are three entirely new ones: Varna and Tirana are being offered by Wizz Air, while ČSA is now flying intoe Heathrow. The airport’s main goal at the moment is to renew direct air connections to the so-called key destinations, which are major European cities that also function as transfer hubs, said Václav Řehoř, the airport’s spokesman. “In all, we’ve chosen 45 such destinations. At the moment, we confirmed air connections to 24 of them, which is more than half.” The Prague airport was among those hit hardest by the pandemic, losing an estimated 800,000 passengers, a 65 percent drop.
