Prague’s Strahov sports stadium on market

11 April 2017

The Czech Football Association is planning to offload the Stadion Evžena Rošického in Prague-Strahov. The association wants to sell the worn-down stadium, located next to the giant Strahov stadium that used to host national Spartakiáda sporting events during socialism, to a private investor. The server idnes.cz quotes an off-record source saying that the sales process is already underway. J&T, Penta and CPI were among the potential bidders. Redeveloping the property would require a change to the master plan. Strahov hill, offering panoramic views of Prague, is considered one of the most attractive residential locations in the city. The football association, however, still needs to clear complicated property and legal issues before finalizing the sale. The city owns the large Strahov stadium, and administrators do not sound very excited about greenlighting redevelopment plans. Prague is considering buying the stadium, and the deputy mayor for city planning, Petra Kolínská, warns potential buyers that the city will not support rezoning from sports to residential at Strahov.
