The City of Prague plans to let tenants in its buildings skip rental payments for the period during which they had to close down due to the pandemic. The city had already agreed not to penalize its tenants for late payment of rent, but it’s expected the new plan will soon be approved by the city council. One of its members, Jan Chabr, said that the type of tenants it said the plan should apply to were stores, restaurants, entertainment and cultural activities as well as accommodations providers. He added that some of its tenants in more lucrative businesses such as banks or insurance companies didn’t need the support, but tenants whose rents the city agrees to waive will be able to pay less in the coming months. Along with signing a formal declaration that they were unable to carry out their business because of the pandemic, tenants will have to pledge that they’ll be renewing service in order to qualify for the deal.
