Prague wants to build two four-storey houses with 28 apartments in Černý Most. City councilors today approved the announcement of a tender for a construction company with an estimated cost of CZK 95 million excluding VAT, which must still be approved by representatives. If this happens, the tender should last about a year and the subsequent construction will take a year and a half to two years. The houses were originally part of a larger project prepared by the previous political representation.
Originally, the municipality planned to build eight apartment buildings on the land for CZK 840 million. However, after the 2018 elections, the current political representation postponed the project as too costly. Now, according to Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček (for TOP 09), she has so far selected two smaller houses. “The project has significantly improved and is being discussed by consensus with the mayor of the city district,” said the deputy. He added that the Prague development company, founded by the city some time ago, is working on the remodeling of the rest of the houses.
After completion, the flats should be intended for members of city-supported professions, such as paramedics, teachers, police officers and firefighters. The construction will include underground garages. Hlaváček said that these would be 2 + kk and 3 + kk flats, also intended for families. In the future, according to the deputy, further urban housing construction is planned, for example in Palmovka or in Nové Dvůr near the planned metro station D.
In recent years, Prague has been facing a housing crisis, due to low construction and high housing prices. There are a total of about 31,500 flats owned by the municipality and city districts, out of the original number of 194,000, which after 1991 became the property of the city. This was followed by privatizations, which reduced the city fund by more than 80 percent.
