The winner of the upcoming presidential elections could turn out to be the current head of state Miloš Zeman. But this will depend upon how strong the anti-Zeman block of voters turns out to be. The president is running away in the popularity polls, with over 40 percent of voters claiming they would like to see him serve a second term. Far behind in second place is Jiří Drahoš, an academic with rising popularity. However, as it appears unlikely he will win more than 50 percent of the vote, a second round will be necessary. Polling has shown consistently that Zeman would gain no new voters in a second round and that that race is too close call.
