Pressure on the rental market in Bucharest, accentuated by Ukrainian refugees

21 April 2022

In the last month, real estate brokers have seen an increase in the demand for apartments for rent on the Bucharest market, which is also fueled by Ukrainian refugees. The number of new rental ads in the last 2 months is slightly lower than last year.

“We have seen a total increase in demand of about 60 – 70 percent. It should be noted that this increase was not entirely determined by the arrival of Ukrainian citizens; The rental segment was already in the process of returning, after the return of students, some office workers and some of the recreational and business tourism in recent months. Obviously, some of the properties that were rented out were taken over by Ukrainian citizens, but it is difficult to really estimate how many properties were rented by them. There is demand in all market segments, regardless of price “, says Victor Vremera, the manager of the residential rental department of the real estate consulting company SVN Romania.
