Příbram is interested in purchasing problematic residential hotels, which could be used as starter flats for young people or as a nursing home. If the owners of the residential hotels themselves would like to change them for this purpose, the town hall will assist them, according to Mayor Jan Konvalinka (ANO).
The town has previously reported that it could buy the residential hotels in Pod Čertovým pahorkem street. According to the mayor, this would be a way to deal with the frequent complaints of disorder, vandalism and noise, and at the same time the town hall would contribute to solving the housing crisis in the town. However, according to earlier information, the owner of the hostels was not in favour of such a solution.
Konvalinka said the city’s position has not changed. “We are still open to negotiations and we offer the possibility of buying the hostel buildings from the current owners. There could be much more dignified housing, for example, for starting families, or the possibility of converting them into a social service, DPS and so on,” the mayor said. “If the owners themselves decide to go in this direction, for example by building special-purpose flats under the DPS regime, the city will assist them in every way possible,” he added.
Konvalinka recalled that Příbram had considered declaring a so-called tax-free zone, but this option was cancelled by the Constitutional Court. In the tax-free zones, people were not reimbursed state housing subsidies, which was supposed to prevent the abuse of benefits by speculators. However, the court meant that the zones interfered with the right to ensure basic living conditions in the area of housing and did not distinguish between perpetrators and victims of problems.
According to Příbram.cz, some of the children from the Příbram residential hotels attack other children and are not afraid to threaten adults. The server has published a video of an incident in which one child brutally beats another child and the police are investigating the case. According to Konvalinka, such behaviour is unacceptable and calls for vigorous and exemplary action. “Necessary steps are now being taken in that spirit. Unfortunately, I cannot give more detailed information in connection with the ongoing actions,” the mayor added.
