More than 21,000 guarantees were secured for Romania’s Prima Casa program by the Credit Guarantee Fund for SMEs (FNGCIMM) between January and June, up 40 percent from the same period last year. The growth follows the passage of a new debt relief law that many fear will lead to changes in the Prima Casa program, which supports first-time homebuyers.
In May, FNGCIMM granted only 13,100 guarantees. The Romanian Finance Ministry recently supplemented Prima Casa’s guarantee ceiling by €500m.
