Hella has begun production at its new plant in the Kaunas free trade area. The plant, which produces electronic components for car headlights began shipments in the middle of August. The plant currently employs 70 people, however over the next 2 years this is expected to rise to 250 as construction on the site continues. Hella began construction on the €30m plant last October, with completion due in 2020. The company saw global sales of €7.1bn in the last fiscal year, expects to produce around 1 million electronic circuit boards annually at the new plant. The products from the plant are for the European market.
