The Office for State Representation in Property Matters (ÚZSVM) is auctioning off the Kunratice chateau. The starting price of the 17th century Baroque building with more than a hectare of park is CZK 106,260,000, according to spokeswoman of the ÚZSVM Michaela Tesařová. None of the other state institutions has shown interest in the chateau.
The electronic auction will start on 18 January at 10:00. It will last 24 hours. Interested parties must pay a deposit of CZK 10 million by 17 January.
The three-winged Baroque chateau was built by František Václav Čabelický of Soutice in 1688 on the site of a medieval fortress, which in the past also belonged to King Václav IV. A large chateau park of over 1.4 hectares with a pheasantry created in the 18th century is adjacent to the south side. Later, the castle was rebuilt in the classical style and a clock tower was added to the northern facade. Inside, the interior preserves high-quality stucco and painted decoration.
After 1945 the castle was confiscated and from 1957 it housed the entomology department of the National Museum. Since 2014 the building has been unused. “In September 2021, the IHRA took over the premises from the National Museum in a very poor technical condition. In accordance with the law, the ÚZSVM first offered the property to other state institutions, but none of them showed interest. Therefore, the ÚZSVM will look for a new owner through a transparent tender procedure with an electronic auction,” the spokesperson said.
