Public investors launched 3,031 construction tenders totaling CZK 174.2bn in 2016, the highest volume in five years. This represents a 30.1-percent increase y-o-y and an 84.1-percent jump in value, according to an analysis by CEEC Research. The Czech Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) and Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) launched 18 major tenders accounting for approximately half of the total value. Jiří Vacek, head of CEEC Research, said investors improved preparation in 2016. He added that the increased volume of tenders may be caused by officials’ efforts to launch tenders before the law changes on public orders. The volume of contracted orders, however, dropped by 20 percent y-o-y to CZK 92bn last year.
