Spain’s Ministry of Health has decreed that people arriving from abroad will have to spent 14 days in quarantine, an order that comes into effect on May 15. The restrictions are in addition to those already in place for those crossing land borders with France and Portugal and to restrictions on the entry of travelers through external borders at ports and airports. Under the new rules, only residents of Spain, cross-border workers, health professionals and people who can prove they have unavoidable reasons for doing so may enter in Spain.
The announcement comes at a time when airlines have begun announcing the resumption of flights to Europe. With restrictions of movement in place for nearly all countries, there is still no tourist-based traffic taking place. KLM is now flying to select European destinations such as Spain or Italy, while Lufthansa will provide flights to the Balearic Islands beginning in June. Ryanair has said today that it will resume its flights to Spain from July 1.
