Questions arise over proposed new Amazon plot

24 March 2014

After the Brno assembly rejected Amazon’s bid to build a 100,000 sqm logistics center in the city’s Černovická terrace industrial zone, South Moravian regional officials said the US e-retailer could build its hub near the Brno-Tuřany airport. The plot is already zoned for logistics use, according to regional governor Michal Hašek. However, the land was leased seven years ago for 50 years to the company Brno Airport Logistics Park, which secured a construction permit for the project, but never began construction. Confusing matters further, idnes.cz writes that there’s suspicion over the lease as it was awarded without a tender ever having been held.
