Railway tenders are on the rise, offering new opportunities for construction companies which have been complaining about a lack of orders in recent years. The investment volume rocketed by 128 percent y-o-y in the first four months of 2014. The State Railway Authority has signed off on construction orders worth CZK 5.4bn since the beginning of April, with additional tenders being launched on orders worth billions of crowns. Dan Ťok, director of Skanska, told the server idnes.cz that tenders for railway projects tend to run more smoothly and bidding prices are more realistic than motorway projects. Railway public tenders are simply better prepared and better managed, Jiří Vacek of CEEC Research agreed. Competition is also not as fierce, as generally just two or three companies submit bids.
