Rapid passenger growth forces new airport investments

26 February 2018

Prague’s international airport may have handled a record number of passengers in 2017 (15.4 million), but the figure is expected to rise by another 1.4 million in 2018. In fact, estimates for the Czech transportation hub envision over 30 million passengers annually as soon as 2038. These figures are forcing the airport to make investments in the near-term in order to be able to handle anticipated growth. Idnes.cz reports that the first of these will be the installation of a self-service baggage drop. Terminal 1, which serves non-Schengen destinations, will see the addition of 10 departure counters to serve outgoing passengers, while 24 new counters will bring the total number at Terminal 2 to 84. A new parking garage is also planned, as are improvements to the airport’s bus terminals connecting it to the city and the modernization of the runway system.
