Řebíček’s Viamont files for bankruptcy

10 August 2012

Viamont, a construction company established by the former transport minister Aleš Hřebíček (ODS), has filed for bankruptcy due to CZK 218m in debts. While Řebíček insists he sold his stake in the company as soon as he became an MP and a government minister, and the company then changed hands a few times, Řebíček remained a member of the advisory board. Viamont is blaming the recession, a lack of construction orders and also the hostile media campaign against it, which allegedly blocked Viamont from public tenders.
The daily MF Dnes, however, reports that during Řebíček’s two years as the transportation minister, Viamont won tenders for jobs worth CZK 10.4bn, and that the company started to fall apart only once Řebíček stepped down from his ministerial post.
