n Ostrov in the Karlovy Vary region, construction work began on the repair of the former Myslivna hotel. The town hall wants to convert the unused building in the city center into an apartment building with non-residential premises for several years. According to the plan, the reconstruction for CZk 41 million should end at the end of next year, the island mayor Jan Bureš (ODS) told reporters today.

The building is a cultural monument, in addition to standing in the city’s monument zone. The plan is to build 13 apartments there, including three maisonettes. According to the mayor, this will be above-standard housing near the center and the park. Non-residential premises will be created on the ground floor, where basic services will be available to residents. A porch should be built in the southern part of the building.

Demolition work has currently begun in Myslivna. In addition to the roof, which is already repaired, the interior of the building and the facade will be repaired. In the future, landscaping is also planned.

The city management will discuss the method of allocating flats. But he wants to keep them in his possession. “We have proven rules from the past, whether it is a waiting list that works on a residential complex, where there are also very beautiful above-standard apartments, or possibly a rental auction, which we have also tried,” said Bureš.

This year, the city has a budget of ten million crowns for the event, another 30 million it wants to invest next year. The town hall gave CZK 6.5 million for the reconstruction of the roof, while CZK 1.5 million were covered by subsidies from the Ministry of Culture to save buildings within the city’s monument zones.

The unused building was bought by the city about five years ago for CZK 11 million. The plan was to renovate it and operate it as a hotel at its own expense. But the project went bankrupt. The city management then searched for use for an empty building for several years.
