The reconstruction of the station building in Františkovy Lázně in the Cheb Region will begin at the end of this year. The façade of the building will be restored to its original historical appearance in terms of colour and materials, while the interior will also be renovated. The owner of the building, the Railway Administration (SŽ), has announced a tender for the construction contractor. It should be ready in the spring of 2025, said SŽ spokeswoman Nela Eberl Friebová. The estimated cost of the construction is CZK 201 million.
The station building is located in a conservation area in the centre of the city, so the upcoming repairs will be supervised by conservationists. “The outer shell of the building will undergo a radical transformation under the supervision of the conservationists. The historic appearance will be restored to the façade and the shelter over the first platform, using traditional materials. The windows and doors will also be restored to their original state,” said the spokesperson.
Work on the interior of the building will include a complete renovation of all surfaces and the restoration of doors. The check-in hall and ticket offices will be modernised, while modern facilities for the Railway Administration and the carriers will be created. All internal installations and wiring will also be replaced and modernised. The layout of 11 flats on the upper floors will be changed.
The main entrance to the check-in hall and the newly created access pavements will be adapted for wheelchair access. Bicycle parking, bike boxes and chargers for electric bikes will be built near the building.
In the Karlovy Vary Region, the Railway Administration is already constructing station buildings in Chodov and Aš. Due to the unsatisfactory condition of the original buildings, it was decided to demolish them, so both stations will get completely new low-energy buildings. The cost is almost 100 million crowns, 70 percent of which is financed from European funds under the National Renewal Plan. They should start serving passengers this year.
