Reconstruction of the Uran office building in Liberec will take longer and cost more

The reconstruction of the Uran office building in Liberec will take a quarter of a year longer and will cost at least CZK 6 million more. The cost of the renovation of the seven-storey building owned by the city will exceed CZK 142 million and the work will last until September. But apparently, this will not be the final price or deadline. Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region), said the mayor of Liberec.

“The original tendered price was CZK 136 million, but now we have discovered some other necessary works, especially the reconstruction of the electrical wiring, which is outdated. So we have now approved a further amendment to increase the price by CZK 6 million to CZK 142 million and extend the construction by three months,” the mayor said. According to him, they will still consider whether to include in the construction a complete reconstruction of the lifts and sanitary facilities, which are also not in good condition. This would increase the price by another 12 million and extend the construction period until the end of November.

The reconstruction of the Uran building, which stands on 1. máje Street next to the bus station, began at the end of the summer holidays last year. It is in the worst condition of Liberec’s office buildings. The original intention was to repair only the façade, which threatened the surrounding area. There was even protective scaffolding around the office building for several years to prevent anything from falling onto the pavement leading to the train station. However, during the preparation of the reconstruction project, it became clear that the internal parts of the building, built in 1969, were also in an unsatisfactory state and would have to be partially modernised as part of this construction. The air-conditioning, electrical installations and central heating will be new.

The ground floor, where the new bus station facilities will be located, will also be rebuilt. According to Zámečník, efforts will be made to have these facilities in operation before the completion of the reconstruction of the building. The bus station facilities have been in a temporary building made of construction cells for almost 30 years.

Due to renovations, most of the Uranium officials have moved to alternate quarters. The Social Welfare Department and the Vehicle Registry are in rented space in the S tower building, and the Social Welfare and Housing Department staff are in the New Municipal Building. Thus, only the municipal police remained in Uran.
