Czech auto production rose 5 percent to nearly 1.5 million vehicles, a record for the country, despite a fall-off in production by TPCA in Kolin of 10 percent. Škoda Auto turned out 858,103 cars, an increase of 12 percent, while Hyundai (located in Nošovice) completed 356,700 vehicles, which was just 0.5 percent more than in 2016. “2017 was a record year in the history of the Czech automotive industry, and the same applies to the the secotr’s supplier sector,” said the president of the Automobile Industry Association’s president Bohdan Wojnar. “These extremely positive results…were influenced by the positive development of the European and global economy and rising consumer demand for vehicles in Europe and in the Czech Republic.” He added that tension in the labor markets are likely to lead to a slowdown in the Czech economy, which is now running at full capacity. While Wojnar believes the local automobile sector will continue to grow, it won’t be able to repeat the result of 2017.
