Business continues to be slow for cement producers on the Romanian market. Three of the country’s biggest players, Holcim, Lafarge and Carpatcement Holding in Romania, posted a collective turnover of just €522m in 2013. This is a 12-percent decrease from the previous year when earnings for the three companies totaled €586m.
Holcim Romania was the only cement producer to post more than €200m in 2013. However, the Swiss company is still struggling, reporting €1.4m in losses last year, though it’s an improvement over the €8.5m it lost in 2012. As a result, Holcim was forced to downgrade its workforce from 942 employees in 2012 to 816 in 2013.
