Regional representatives criticize PPP plans for D4 motorway

15 January 2016

Regional representatives of Southern Bohemia have criticized a decision by the Czech government to seek a private investor for a 32 kilometer stretch of the D4 motorway. Miroslav Krejčí, a representative of the town of Pisek, says that since the planning process has been completed for the new section of the traffic artery, construction could have begun quickly.

The Czech Ministry of Transportation says that work could begin in 2017, however Krejčí claims the road could have been completed by then if the state had agreed to act as investor and that the work could have cost between CZK 8bn and CZK 9bn. He predicts that the final price tag offered through the PPP project will be far higher. “The work that could have been started will be delayed by two years. There could also be complications around the validity of the forced purchases of land. No one has even been able to say what profit the potential investor would have,” he claims.
