The €60m renovation of the National Theatre Bucharest was completed last week. The project was funded by the state budget as well as the Ministry of Culture. Construction started in 2011. Aedificia Carpaţi and Romtest Electronic oversaw the renovation, which was modeled after London’s Hall Theatre. The capacity was increased from 1,720 seats to more than 3,100 seats.
“The theater has returned to its original form, with substantial rebuilding for earthquake resistance,” said Ion Caramitru, the theater’s director. “The reconstruction of the theater included and an entire reconfiguration of interior work.”
